this one is LONG, but really GOOD, and very QUOTABLE.
“public calamity is a might leveller…at such times even the slightest chance of doing good must be taken hold of by even the most inconsiderable person.” (not an exact quote — my memory from last night. but it could be the motto of this show.)
“i apologize if i have tired you by a long discourse, but that is the fate of those to whose influence nothing will be conceded, who must win every inch of their ground by argument.” (another possible motto.)
well, i don’t think i’m going to convince you to listen to a speech this long by talking yet more here. either you will or you won’t. i recommend that you DO, because it’s EXCELLENT, and also, both the times i’ve read this, i’ve started speaking in high-flown rhetoric. so — see what happens to you! probably not as much, ‘cause listening just ain’t reading. but maybe you’ll get a little smarter anyhow.
